Cattle Foot Care (Full Day)

For dairy and beef farmers, this course provides the theory followed by a full afternoon of practical and hands-on training. At the end of the day delegates will have a thorough knowledge of foot anatomy, function and corrective paring. Control of lameness at individual cow and whole herd level is also fully covered.

Dairy Cow Udder Health and Milk Quality Improvement (1.5 Days)

Part 1: The Cow (Full Day 10.00-16.00)

  • Udder and teat anatomy and function using real post mortem specimens
  • Mastitis – the causes, treatments and preventions
  • Milk Quality Control – cell counts, bacterial counts, fat, protein, lactose

Part 2: The Milking Machine (Half Day 13.00-16.00)

A comprehensive course on understanding the machine and how it affects the herd mastitis and milk quality situation.

Dairy Herd Fertility Control (1.5 Days)

Part 1: The Individual Cow (Full Day 10.00-16.00)

A day in the classroom giving the delegate an understanding of the cow’s reproductive system; what can go wrong and how to influence or enhance it with management,
nutrition, breeding, housing and drugs.

Part 2: The Herd (Half Day 13.00-16.00)

Solid guidance on controlling fertility in the herd through the use of routine visits, manual records, computerised records and computerised analysis of problems.

Calf Rearing (Full Day 10.00-16.00)

Rearers of dairy heifer calves, beef cross calves and bull beef calves will benefit from this course. All aspects of health, disease, nutrition, environment and economics are covered, with a specialist slot on the economics of bull beef production by the main supplier of McDonalds. A morning of theory is followed after lunch by a farm visit.

Dairy Heifer Rearing (Full Day 11.00-15.00)

A short course reviewing modern systems of heifer management from weaning to Calving. Current proven systems are taught and easily implemented on the farm. A morning of theory is followed after lunch by a farm visit.

Beef Suckler Cow Management (Two Days x 10.00-16.00)

A split, two-day course for the owners and cowmen of beef suckler herds. All aspects of health, productivity, disease, nutrition, genetics, housing and breeding are addressed. Theory is backed up with a farm visit. Delegates will enhance their knowledge and obtain new skills, making improvements to their herds a reality.

A complete one-day session for the commercial and pedigree sheep farmer to help optimise productivity. The course provides knowledge of breeding, genetics, nutrition, environment, health and disease control.
